Comfortable Lies

Netflix asks managers one question: "Would you fight to keep this person?"

If no, they're gone. Good severance. But gone.

Cold? Maybe. Clear? Absolutely.

Everyone knows where they stand. No guessing. No politics. No wasted energy trying to change minds.

(Sometimes harsh truth is kinder than comfortable lies.)

After years of different bosses, here's what I learned: The moment you accept you can't change them, you get your power back.

You stop taking it personally. Their style isn't about you. The 1% rule isn't about you. It's just how organizations work.

Like gravity.

The people getting promoted aren't trying to teach their boss empathy. They're too busy speaking their boss's language fluently.

Once you see it, you can use it.

Learn their language. Deliver their way. Build your skills. Plan your moves.

Your manager is who they are. You are who you are.

Stop trying to change them. Start changing your approach.

That's not giving in. That's getting smart.

That's the only question that matters.
